Background

IconByDesign is a premium wood furniture brand that was established in 2015 and is well-known for its classic design, high-quality craftsmanship, and aesthetic that is an inspiration from Scandinavian design. By switching from Neto to Shopify Plus, the brand, which is proudly owned by Australians, aimed to improve its capabilities in the realm of eCommerce.

For the purpose of meeting a stringent deadline, IconByDesign worked in conjunction with Perceptiv Digital to ensure a smooth migration. It was necessary to have meticulous planning, effective collaboration between the internal team of IconByDesign and the experts at Perceptiv, and clear communication with stakeholders throughout the entire process because the project was extremely complex. The end result was a seamless transition that established the foundation for a more authoritative presence on the internet.

IconByDesign’s Goals

  1. A successful migration within 3 months with a carefully constructed plan to reduce or eliminate the risks typically associated with replatforming.
  2. Deliver the necessary frontend and backend functionality to support the marketing and sales activities and goals.
  3. Create a website with unique sections built for purpose and ease of use to enable the IconByDesign team to efficiently build out internal pages without the need for a developer.
  4. End up with a consolidated and improved tech stack, with Shopify Plus handling eCommerce marketing and sales

How We Did It

  • A divide and conquer mentality was adopted during the project, with Perceptiv working extremely closely with the internal team at IconByDesign to ensure each stakeholder was aware of their responsibilities by leveraging ClickUp to the full extent possible.
  • Shopify’s discount API was leveraged on the site; Icon By Design used to have a 2 SKU paradigm, one for Buy Now and one for Pre-Order, but we brought them into a single SKU paradigm, allowing for a less complex data architecture.
  • Multiple automations via Flows and Make were put into place to ensure data integrity.

Challenges

Icon By Design has well over 100 metafields that run different frontend functionality. The majority of these lie at a variant level and are dynamically updated on variant change.
