People aged 26-35 own the most smart home devices, with 38.5 -percent of millennials using voice search at least once a month. Baby boomers, on the other hand, are much more reticent to use voice search technology, with just 10.1-percent using voice search at least once every month.

The numbers for millennials should keep rising into 2019, with 39.3-percent using voice-enabled search once a month by next year. While 43-percent of millennials have made a voice search purchase in the last year, the same survey found that 48-percent of those asked said they didn’t plan on making a voice search-assisted purchase in the next year.

Those with reservations about voice pointed to perceived security weaknesses and a lack of visual direction as what kept them from embracing the technology. But this could also be down to a ‘comfort factor’ for older users, as they feel more comfortable purchasing products in a tried-and-tested manner over new technology.
